Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 494207), to commence as soon as possible, but in any case not later than September 1, 2019.  The appointment will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and an active Mechanical Engineering Programme. The Department employs about 30 full-time faculty members and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. Information about the Department can be obtained at

Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field. Previous teaching experience will be a plus. Prior industrial R&D track records will be an advantage. Applicants should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and an excellent command of English.

The appointee is expected to teach lower division undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, primarily in Engineering Mathematics and Mechanics, but also possibly in other introductory subjects in a standard undergraduate curriculum. Teaching duties will be in the settings of lectures in big classrooms as well as small group tutorials. Those with strong motivation and be willing to engage in innovative teaching schemes such as flipped classroom and e-Learning are preferred. The appointee is also expected to supervise capstone projects with engineering contents for final year undergraduates and taught master degree students. Administrative works which promote the educational mission of the University will also be required.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
