Provost/Deputy Vice-Chancellor

The Provost is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and will deputize for the President/Vice-Chancellor in leading and/or representing the University as necessary. The Provost is the senior academic officer of the university, reporting to the President, and is a member of the senior management team which is chaired by the President and meets weekly. The full complement of the senior management team will be President, Provost, five vice-presidents (three of whom report to the Provost), executive vice-president (admin & finance), finance director and registrar. The ten Faculty Deans report to the Provost. She/he takes responsibility for, and advises the President on, academic staffing including promotions, tenure decisions, extensions beyond current retirement age, hiring of new Faculty etc. The Provost takes the lead on the University's triennial Academic Development Plan which helps to inform the overall strategic plan for the University as developed by the senior management team with input from various stakeholders.

Applications and nominations are now invited for the position of Provost/Deputy Vice-Chancellor.  This post will be filled on a full-time, five-year fixed-term contract basis with the possibility of renewal. A globally-competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits package will be offered commensurate with the appointee’s capabilities, qualifications and experience.

The Role

  • With the senior management team, sets the strategic direction for the academic enterprise of the University;
  • Working closely with Deans, Heads and academic staff, provides visionary leadership in academic programme planning, development and evaluation to continuously enhance the student experience in a globally-relevant setting;
  • Aligns human/budgetary resources available towards the achievement of goals set;
  • Formulates policies to attract and retain outstanding talents;
  • Promotes innovation, collaboration and excellence in research and scholarship, teaching and learning.

  • A successful track record in creating and implementing distinctive academic programmes within and across disciplines;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a complex academic organization;
  • A distinguished record of academic achievements;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Highest standards of personal integrity;
  • Experience in administration and resource management at a senior level.
