Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Centre for Applied English Studies (2 posts), to commence on September 1, 2018, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field, and experience of teaching courses in Applied Linguistics and/or TESOL at postgraduate level and in English for Academic Purposes to undergraduate students in a range of disciplines. They should also have a record that shows evidence of a strong research programme and the ability to attract grant funding. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the teaching of at least two of the following areas: pronunciation, writing, grammar, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. The appointee will be required to teach the Centre’s M.A. programme, supervise M.A. and doctoral students, carry out research, and make a contribution to academic leadership. He/She may be required to teach English for Academic Purposes courses at undergraduate level. Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://caes.hku.hk.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
