The Centre for Genomic Sciences is an academic core laboratory established in 2002 under the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong hosting state of the art genomic and proteomic technology platforms. With a team of more than 30 vibrant, highly trained and dedicated staff, we aim to provide leadership in genome research in Hong Kong and the region by developing expertise and infrastructure for studies in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. We are seeking for a highly energized, dedicated and knowledgeable bioinformatician to join our team and boost our bioinformatics capabilities for our platform. We offer solid on-job training for those with less experience in data analysis.

Applicants should have at least a Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline; with a minimum of 4 years’ hands-on bioinformatics experience with R, Python, Perl, Java, or related data analysis languages. Having experience in analyzing Next-Generation Sequencing data and bioinformatics core service support would be an advantage. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills; have a strong interest in working closely with researchers; be highly motivated, independent, and able to perform in a multidisciplinary team environment, whilst working and managing multiple projects in parallel.

The appointee will have the unique opportunity to participate in world-class research, be exposed to a wide range of NGS applications, interpret data generated from cutting edge new generation of sequencers and investigate exciting unexplored species. He/She will provide bioinformatics support as a core service to leading researchers, provide technical consultations, conduct trainings, establish analysis pipelines and supervise junior staff members. Areas of bioinformatics support include but not limited to: transcriptomics, de novo sequence assembly, targeted DNA sequencing, medical resequencing, epigenomics, etc.
