Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 499264), to commence on September 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.  Direct tenure may be offered to an outstanding candidate.

The School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. For Professoriate staff, primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but he/she will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects.  Information about the School can be obtained at http://hku.hk/chinese/index.html.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Modern Chinese Literature or related areas, be actively engaged in research, and have a substantial track record of research publications in modern Chinese literature. The specific emphasis regarding research in modern Chinese literature is open, but an ability to teach the literature of twentieth century China will be an advantage. The appointee should also be able to demonstrate an ability and willingness to participate in and support a vibrant and collaborative research culture.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
