Applications are invited for appointment as Scientific Officer in the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 499872), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in microbiology or a related field, or an equivalent qualification, with a proven track record in viral infections.  They should have research experience and technical skills in virology, vaccinology and molecular biology, and preferably with experience in the construction of microbiology laboratories.  They should also have good leadership and interpersonal skills.  The appointee will be responsible for the establishment, testing, validation and commissioning of all related equipment and facilities for research on emerging infectious diseases.  He/She will be involved in planning, organizing and coordinating the construction of research laboratories.  He/She will also procure equipment, arrange for installation, testing, validation and related issues before and after the construction.  The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours and called upon to perform duties as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
