Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow at the Marine Futures Laboratory in the Research Division for Ecology and Biodiversity and the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) (Ref.: 503704), to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Ecology, Ecological Modelling, or Marine Biology/Ecology related disciplines. They should have a demonstrated publication record of high-impact papers investigating how climate change (particularly ocean warming and marine heatwaves) drive changes to marine biology or ecology, broad-scale biodiversity patterns, and/or ecosystem functioning. They should possess a toolkit comprised of quantitative skills that allows them to handle global datasets, extensive experience coding in R or other platforms, experience in developing code as part of a team (e.g. familiarity with Git and an online Git repository such as GitHub), and preferably a solid foundation in running climate projections. They should have strong communication skills in order to lead the data analyses and writing of papers, coordinate among the collaborative institutions; and be self-driven to identify other areas of research to enhance the project.
The appointee will lead a funded research project in partnership with the Shimoda Marine Research Center, University of Tsukuba (Japan) and CSIRO Australia. They will analyse global and regional climate model outputs for global ocean warming and marine heatwave trends and apply the findings to multiple biological data sets. Opportunity to undertake field or laboratory experiments will be provided, though this is not a primary component of the project. The appointee will work at SWIMS facilities located on HKU main campus and at Cape D’Aguilar. More information about SWIMS and the Marine Futures Laboratory can be found at http://www.swims.hku.hk and http://www.marinefutures.org, respectively. Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Bayden Russell at email@example.com.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
The University only accepts online application for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload a cover letter which outlines research experience, an up-to-date C.V. with proof of research experience and publication list, and contact information of 3 referees. Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until May 9, 2021, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
