Research Assistant I/II (several posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 527135) (to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis or a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree or above in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular and Cell Biology or related disciplines. They should have excellent written and communication skills. Experience in routine molecular laboratory skills, such as nucleic acid extraction would be an advantage. Applicants with relevant master/higher degree and more experience would be considered for Research Assistant I.

The appointee will support the methodology development of metagenomic studies on environmental samples. He/She will help facilitate the exploration of processing and genomic sequencing of samples using laboratory protocols. He/She may need to travel to specialist laboratories and field locations outside of Hong Kong. The appointee will assist in running and enhancing laboratory workflows, in particular the extraction of nucleic acids from environmental samples; assist in logistic management of samples in collaboration with several field research stations; assist in fieldwork and research in specialist laboratories. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
