Applications are invited for appointment as Full-time/Part-time Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant I/II in Survey Data Analytics in the Department of Urban Planning and Design (Ref.: 527422).

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be part of the Department of Urban Planning and Design and will work on a two-waves nationwide longitudinal survey data collected in the years 2023 and 2024 with a focus on residents' behaviour in location choice and mobility, particularly in the digital era. Each wave features responses from over 8,000 participants aged 18 to 60 years old across 81 cities in China.

The appointee’s key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and analysing large-scale survey datasets relevant to the Chinese context
  • Advancing knowledge through data analysis and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborating with team members to develop innovative analytical approaches for predicting future behavioural trends.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Geography, Social sciences, Urban planning or related disciplines. Applicants for the Senior Research Assistant position should have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in survey data analysis using tools such as R, Python and STATA
  • Strong quantitative background and data visualisation skills
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Capability to learn new statistical techniques independently

What We Offer

The position is available immediately and is initially for a term of six months to one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
