Assistant Education Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Librarian II or Administrative Assistant II) in the University Libraries (Ref: 528605)
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled candidate to join our Learning and Research Services team to provide quality service for the Faculty of Education.
The Role
The appointee will work under the general direction of the Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services). He/She will be responsible for managing and leading the service provision for Education Faculty; developing, facilitating access to, and evaluating subject-based information resources and those related to generative AI and its applications in education; liaison with the Education Faculty including understanding and addressing their needs and communicating the Libraries’ collections and services capabilities; providing learning and research support, library training, information services and advanced consultation services via face-to-face and online modes; coordinating and communicating with other units of the Libraries; collaborating with other partners on campus and beyond; and participation in library-wide projects and activities. The appointee will be a key member in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating instructional materials to ensure that the training programmes are effective and efficient. In addition, the appointee may be assigned other functional duties to provide central support to library-wide learning and research services.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess a good university degree and a recognized professional qualification in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) OR an advanced degree relevant to the position (e.g. Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Education Technology); with at least 5 to 8 years of experience in learning and research support in academic libraries OR in instructional design/learning experience design in an educational institution or the educational technology industry.

- ability to work independently and with initiative;
- a collaborative spirit in working with staff within the Library and the University community at large;
- demonstrated strong leadership with the ability to delegate effectively, discharge duties to staff and set appropriate standards for the delivery of service/work;
- ability to motivate staff and foster a positive team environment;
- proven ability to plan and implement significant projects;
- competence in the Education subject services, information resources, library instruction, research, analysis and interpretation;
- demonstrated expertise in the application of generative AI in an educational environment, the integration of diverse eLearning tools, learner-centred learning, workshop and training design and delivery, and instructional materials development; and
- knowledge of learning and research processes, and latest trends and developments in information technology and generative AI and in particular those that apply to an educational environment.
Applicants with less professional experience in library and information science may be considered for appointment at the rank of Administrative Assistant II.
What we offer
The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, In addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary for Assistant Librarian II and 10% of basic salary for Administrative Assistant II.
