Senior Curatorial Assistant (at the rank of Senior Facilities Assistant) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.: 528741)

The Role

The appointee will demonstrate a creativity and proactive attitude in proposing new methods to enhance project impact. They will develop content that aligns with and complements the existing primary and secondary school curriculum, with a focus on multi-disciplinary subjects. He/ She will focus on designing online and onsite education programme as described below:

Education and Outreach 

  • Project Development — Oversee and develop projects by designing, organising, implementing, and executing online and onsite public and school education programmes. Tasks will include teaching, and script writing.
  • Research — Conduct research on art topics related to museum exhibitions.
  • Lead guided tours.
  • Marketing — Establish relationships with schools, partners, government entities, artists for programme development.

External Affairs

  • Create press and publicity materials, including press releases, and handle complaints
  • Coordinate with artists, speakers, guest curators, and other stakeholders, providing support for events such as lectures, concerts, and film screenings when required
  • Contribute to the development of promotional materials, such as the production of leaflets and translation
  • Coordinate various promotional activities through online and printed materials

Rotating weekend schedule applies and working irregular hours may be required occasionally. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and a written test.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • Degree holder or above, preferably in museum studies, cultural management, art history or communications AND a Level 4 result or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma or Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;
  • At least 3 years of full-time relevant experience in the field of learning and interpretation, programme administration, event and project management in museums, art organisations, or academic institute with strong passion for the cultural sector, solid knowledge of Chinese arts would be an advantage;
  • Good organisational and communication skills with excellent command of both written English and Chinese as well as spoken English and Cantonese; proficiency in Putonghua is required;
  • A strong sense of responsibility, good and outgoing personality with attention to details and self-motivation; and
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Zoom, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
