Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Research Officer in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences, School of Public Health (Ref.: 530306), to commence as soon as possible for one year on temporary term contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or related disciplines, preferably with experience in nucleic acid extraction and genomic library preparation. They should have solid knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry, in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to those with experience in developing techniques for the extraction of nucleic acids from degraded and low biomass samples. They should be innovative, methodical and self-motivated. More years of relevant experience will be preferred.
Duties shall mainly include processing low biomass samples for nucleic acid extraction, troubleshooting and collaborative development of novel protocols related to low biomass samples, as well as maintaining sample inventories. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop contamination control protocols for a wide range of sample types.
