Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Legal Counsel/Legal Counsel (at the rank of Administrative Assistant I/II (AAI/II)) in the Technology Transfer Office (Ref.: 499026), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should be qualified as a lawyer in Hong Kong or any commonwealth countries with at least 10 years of post-qualification work experience, including at least 3-5 years’ experience at supervisory level, in law firms or as in-house legal position, in the area of corporate and commercial laws and regulatory compliance. Those who have an experience in intellectual property laws (including patent laws and copyright laws) would have an advantage. Applicants should have excellent analytical and drafting skills with the ability to provide accurate, practical and timely advice; a strong understanding of commercial issues and risk management; a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua); proficiency in English and Chinese word processing and PC applications such as MS Word and Excel; excellent interpersonal, organizational, detail-oriented and communication skills; and a strong sense of responsibility. They should also be self-motivated, hardworking, and able to work independently under minimal supervision. Those with less experience may be considered as Legal Counsel (at the rank of AAII).
The appointee will be required to draft and review legal agreements (such as collaboration agreement, research agreement, consultancy agreement, license agreement, inter-institutional agreement, shareholders agreement, material transfer agreement, data access agreement and non-disclosure agreement, etc); provide legal advice on technology transfer, research and compliance of statutory and regulatory requirements; handle corporate matters; liaise and negotiate contract terms with internal and external parties; develop and advise on corporate policies, practices and procedures.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 15% of basic salary for AAI, and 10% of basic salary for AAII.
