Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Counsellor/Counsellor in the Department of Psychiatry (Ref.: 499441), to commence as soon as possible on a two- to three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
The appointees will participate in a 4.5-year large-scale multidisciplinary research and community youth mental health project. It is Hong Kong’s first territory-wide initiative to build a youth-specific and youth-friendly mental health platform that provides timely preventive intervention to youth with distress and risk for mental health deterioration. The project will transform current youth services and provide a framework for future developments in youth mental health and youth-focused services both locally and internationally.
Applicants should have a good Bachelor’s degree or above in psychology, social work, counselling or other related disciplines with at least 8 years’ solid work experience in diagnostic assessment and psychological interventions. Experience working with young people is preferred. Those with less experience may be appointed as Counsellor. The appointee will conduct individual assessments for youth; provide consultations, advice, and case support to social workers of NGO partners; collaborate with NGO partners to develop effective preventive psychological interventions; and supervise project staff in implementing interventions and conducting assessments for youth. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary for Senior Counsellor, or up to 10% of basic salary for Counsellor.
