Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Geography (Ref.: 500574) (to commence as soon as possible for 4.5 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or related disciplines. They should have a good command of written and spoken English, a strong sense of responsibility, and adequate knowledge of statistical methods and quantitative research. They should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, possess good organizational skills and able to work independently. Work experience in research projects is preferable but not essential.
The appointee will work on research projects related to regional economic development, with a specific focus on innovation in China. The appointee will be responsible for designing and building a digital platform that connects different (economic) datasets on multiple levels of scale (individual, firm, region and country levels). This dataset will later be made accessible to the public through an interactive website, also to be designed and developed by the appointee in close collaboration with Dr Frank van der Wouden. The appointee needs to be familiar with handling, aggregating, managing, and computing big data (Spark, Hadoop, Anaconda, etc.).
