Senior Technical Officer/Technical Officer (2 posts) in the Department of Chemistry (Ref.: 502326) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
For Post (A), applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry or a related field, with at least 5 year's hands-on experience in optics/laser/ultrafast measurement in a tertiary institution or an industrial sector. They should have in-depth knowledge of, and extensive experience in physical chemistry research and computational chemistry; and knowledge of assembling optical/spectroscopy measurement setup. Those with experience in customizing mechanical and optical parts for microscopy and time-resolved spectroscopy systems are preferred. The appointee will be responsible for providing services to departmental members; managing lasers and emission spectroscopy related instruments; providing training to students and developing standard operation protocols for the managed instruments; helping and giving advice to departmental members for building new experimental setups for ultrafast and microscopy measurements; and monitoring the operation of the computer clusters in the Department, as well as coordinating the usage of outsourced supercomputing services such as the Tianhe-2. Applicants with less experience/qualifications may be appointed as Technical Officer.
For Post (B), applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physics or a related field, with at least 5 year's hands-on experience in materials science and device research in a tertiary institution or an industrial sector. They should have in-depth knowledge of, and extensive experience in materials characterization and device preparation method. Extensive experience in SEM, EDS, AFM, confocal microscope will be required. The basic knowledge of, and experience in nanofabrication and surface analysis such as electron beam lithography, metallization, etching, photolithography, CVD, PVD, e-beam evaporation, sputter deposition, ALD, TEM, mask aligning, nanolithography, XPS, ellipsometry, STM, BET, MALDI, contact angle, particle sizer, DLS, microfluidics, zeta potential analyzer, TGA, DSC, 3D-printing, electrospinning, thermal conductivity measurement, device engineering, circuit boarding, machining, wire bonding, Labview programming, custom coding, machining, etc. are preferred but not required. The appointee will be responsible for providing characterization services for most-demanding samples such as conducting in-situ liquid AFM on soft biological specimens and develop/track the standard operation protocols for student users for routine characterization; providing training to research students and authorized users for data collection and analysis; and maintaining the nanofabrication and materials characterization facility in working condition.
