Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the AIDS Institute of the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 512709), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or related disciplines, with an excellent publication track record. They should have good quantitative background, relevant post-doctoral experience in conducting and managing immunology studies, and the ability to lead individual research project independently. Those who have research experience in HIV/AIDS and coronavirus with non-human primate and small animal models would have an advantage. 

The appointee will participate in multidisciplinary research projects to study the mucosal immunology and immunopathogenesis of HIV/AIDS and coronavirus.  He/She is also expected to develop significant independent and/or joint research programme(s); apply for external research funding; supervise postgraduate students and research staff; teach courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; and publish original research articles in high-impact journals. The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop academically in the field of virology and immunology of emerging infectious diseases.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
