Research Assistant I/II (several posts) in the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole, School of Public Health (Ref.: 518952) (to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis or a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or above in bioinformatics or a related discipline, with a background in life sciences or health. They should have work knowledge of molecular biology and at least one programming language such as python or R, proficiency in command line tools for data science, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. They should be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively. Preference will be given to those with expertise in genomics, pipeline or workflow automation, familiarity with software development best practices, and experience configuring and deploying analysis on an HPC or cloud infrastructure. Those who plan to pursue postgraduate studies are welcome to apply.

The appointees will join Dr. Dhanasekaran’s research team to develop and maintain bioinformatic analysis and pipelines on projects related to SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and other important emerging human and animal viruses. They will analyse datasets using open source tools; develop scripts and pipelines to integrate clinical, epidemiological and genomic data from disease outbreaks for visualization and interpretation; and contribute to the design and implementation of computational projects in collaboration with international experts in the field of virology.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
