Full-time Research Assistant II at the Speech, Language and Reading Lab in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 526064) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)  

The Speech, Language and Reading Lab (https://slrlab.edu.hku.hk/) at the University of Hong Kong is seeking full-time Research Assistant II who is interested in developing cutting-edge technologies to promote language, reading, and socio-emotional development in children with special educational needs (SEN).

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. They should possess adequate knowledge and experience in software development, including creating and maintaining codebases, database structure, and backend operations. Expertise in programming languages such as Python and Javascript is required. Applicants should have a strong ability to prioritize and work under pressure; a strong sense of motivation, responsibility, and a knack for accuracy and attention to detail; excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; the ability to work independently, and as part of a team.

The appointee will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team comprising educational and developmental psychologists, speech-language pathologists, linguists, computer engineers and cognitive neuroscientists, with a range of research skills and capacities in clinical assessment and intervention for children with dyslexia and/or autism. Specifically, the appointee will be provided with the opportunity to (1) develop front-end architecture; (2) create servers and databases for functionality; and (3) develop research management and leadership skills by supervising and training undergraduate student helpers from various disciplines.
