Tenure-Track Associate/Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture in the Division of Landscape Architecture (Ref. 527151)
Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate or Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture in the Department of Architecture (Ref. 527151), to commence on 1 January 2025, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
The Division of Landscape Architecture offers an internationally-recognised, rigorous and dynamic research and teaching environment. Our faculty is composed of international scholars and professionals with diverse research interests both within and beyond the Pearl River Delta region. Staff members take an active part in shaping the Department's culture through nptj teaching and administrative responsibilities as part of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Responsibilities
The appointee will pursue a productive and innovative research/design agenda incorporating landscape architecture and advanced technology involving computation, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication and robotics. They will contribute to shaping our digital design, environmental simulation/representation, and advanced fabrication practices. Teaching responsibilities will include design studio as well as core and elective seminars in our technology and representation curriculum tracks within our Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in landscape architecture, though duties may extend into our specialist Master of Science programs in Conservation and Sustainable Environmental Design. The appointee will also be encouraged to attract and supervise Ph.D. students. Broadly, the successful candidate will help build our leadership in the areas of technology-driven design and help shape and deliver a strategic vision that builds links to the robotics, artificial intelligence and other technology initiatives across the University.
Qualifications
We seek a research and design-active scholar who is an established or emerging leader in the field working at the intersection of landscape architecture and computation. Applicants should hold a terminal degree in Landscape Architecture or an allied field and preference will be given to those holding professional qualifications and/or a Ph.D. in a relevant subject. They should demonstrate an emerging or established record of research, teaching and critical practice through their scholarship and creative work as evidenced in published work, exhibitions and/or successful grant applications. As the Division continues to build regional and international links with academic institutions and innovators working at the intersection of landscape architecture and technology, applicants who have a record of building such partnerships will be favored.
Additional preferred qualifications
1. Knowledge of contemporary theory and practices around computational design and fabrication.
2. Interest and experience in interdisciplinary research or practice, especially in ways that bridge to architecture, engineering, construction and computer science.
3. Interest and experience in critical applications of robotic fabrication/remotes, human-machine interfaces and computer simulation of large-scale environments.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
