Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture in the Division of Landscape Architecture (Ref. 527152)
Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture in the Department of Architecture (Ref. 527152), to commence on 1 January 2025, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
The Division of Landscape Architecture offers an internationally-recognised, rigorous and dynamic research and teaching environment. Our faculty is composed of international scholars and professionals with diverse research interests both within and beyond the Pearl River Delta region. Staff members take an active part in shaping the Department's culture through both teaching and administrative responsibilities as part of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Responsibilities
The appointee will pursue a productive and innovative research/design agenda in ecological systems, ecological design, or landscape ecology in relation to rapid urbanisation, environmental restoration, and climate change. They will contribute to integrating contemporary ecological design practices into ongoing pedagogical initiatives across the Division. Teaching responsibilities will include core and elective seminars and design studio courses in areas such as ecological planning and design, landscape ecology, urban ecology, planetary health and climate change adaptation, and fieldwork studies. Teaching will primarily be within our Bachelor’s and Master's programmes in landscape architecture, though duties may extend into our specialist Master of Science programs in Conservation and Sustainable Environmental Design. The appointee will also be encouraged to attract and supervise Ph.D. students. Broadly, the successful candidate will help build and sustain our leadership in the areas of environmental design and planning and help shape and deliver a strategic vision that builds on ongoing research and pedagogical initiatives within the Division.
Qualifications
We seek a research and design-active scholar who is an established or emerging leader in the field working at the intersection of landscape architecture, planning, and ecology. Applicants should hold a terminal degree in Landscape Architecture and preference will be given to those holding professional qualifications and/or a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture, and to those who have experience in teaching and practicing design in a multidisciplinary context. They should demonstrate an emerging record of research, teaching and critical practice through their scholarship and creative work as evidenced in published work, exhibitions and/or successful grant applications. As the Division continues to build regional and international links with academic institutions and innovators working at the intersection of landscape architecture and ecology, applicants who have a record of building such partnerships will be favored.
Additional preferred qualifications
1. Knowledge of contemporary theory and practices around ecological design and planning.
2. Technical knowledge of soils, plants, hydrology, biodiversity, and habitat management with interests in Asian or subtropical contexts.
3. Interest and experience in interdisciplinary research or practice, especially in ways that bridge the environmental sciences, social sciences, and design.
4. Experience in applied ecology, site-based field work, or community engagement.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
