Applications are invited for appointment as Research Officer / Assistant Research Officer in the School of Public Health (several posts) (Ref. no.: 528907) to commence as soon as possible, on a two- to three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Applicants should possess a doctoral degree by research (Ph.D., D.Sc., Dr. P.H. or equivalent) in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or related disciplines, with at least 5 years’ relevant work experience. They should have a strong research-related background; multiple years of experience in leading academic and project management aspects of research studies, demonstrated expertise in working with large and complex datasets; excellent written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. They should be organized, responsible, resourceful and attentive to details. Those with lower academic qualification and less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Research Officer.
The appointees will be primarily responsible for applied and methodological work in epidemiological and/or statistical research, and will work in a large population-based cohort with over 46,000 participants in 20,000 households. They will generate tables and figures for reports and presentations; write scientific publications, grant proposals and reports; assist in teaching; and perform general administrative, operational and other duties as assigned. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical/dental benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary for Assistant Research Officer, and 15% for Research Officer. Housing benefits will be provided to Research Officer if applicable.
