Laboratory Manager (at the rank of Technical Manager) in the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 530629) (to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).

We are seeking an energetic and motivated individual for an exciting new role which combines strategic, scientific and administrative responsibilities. The successful applicant will work with a team of enthusiastic neuroscientists in the School of Biomedical Sciences at HKU. The group is using a combination of the latest imaging, optogenetic and electrophysiological approaches to understand the relationship between neural circuits and behaviour. The responsibilities of the role include grants and personnel management, mouse colony management, oversight of regulatory compliance and general lab organization. Full training will be given, and engagement with the scientific projects in the lab will be encouraged.

Applicants should possess a Master's degree or above in biological sciences, neuroscience or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ postqualification work experience in a laboratory environment. An interest or background in neuroscience and some familiarity with advanced microscopy and surgical techniques would be an advantage. Candidates should have excellent organisational and communication skills, be able to work independently and to interact effectively with students, postdocs, and staff at all levels. Experience with transgenic animals (especially mice), virus preparation, and a good track record of scientific publications would be an asset. Applicants should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). They should be organized, responsible, detail-minded, selfmotivated, and able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
