IT Officer (Network Operations) in the Information Technology Services (Ref.: 531162)
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides central IT services to support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. ITS is transforming its organization to support its new strategic development and strategic adoption of new technologies. We are seeking high caliber candidates to support different IT services and new development. Information about ITS can be obtained at https://www.its.hku.hk/.
The Role
- Implement and manage network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate and support new technologies and applications.
- Support and facilitate tasks and workflows of operations and network automation, by means of identifying suitable solutions/tools and development of automation scripts/applications for production use;
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and resolve network-related issues in a timely manner.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in networking technologies.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT) or a related discipline with at least 2 years of relevant post-qualification work experience; a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; good communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; and be able to work independently. They should have knowledge or experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Experience in managing network infrastructure projects, with a strong understanding of networking technologies (e.g., LAN, WAN, VPN, WiFi, switches, routers).
- Program development on Linux/Unix/Windows OS with programming and scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, Linux shells, Windows PowerShell, etc.). Azure cloud experience (e.g., Function App) is an added advantage;
- Automating daily system management tasks through scripting, or using tools like Power Automate/Power Automate Desktop;
- Development experience on Microsoft Power Platform (e.g. Model Driven Apps and Dataverse, Power Pages, etc);
- Knowledge of network security best practices and experience with security tools and technologies;
- Project management skills, including experience with project management methodologies;
- Experience in supporting Service Desk, developing and maintaining operation procedures and the delivery of training to related services.
Applicants with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for an appointment as IT Technician.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
