Part-time Research Assistant I/II (holding a functional title of UX/UI designer) in the Division of Restorative Dental Sciences of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 534643)
We are looking for part-time UX/UI designer (at the rank of Research Assistant I/II) in the Division of Restorative Dental Sciences of the Faculty of Dentistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on user needs, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to inform LMS design decisions and project strategies;
- Design and build responsive website interfaces and web applications, ensuring a seamless user experience (UX) and a polished visual aesthetic (UI);
- Work closely with academic and administrative stakeholders to interpret project demands, brainstorm solutions, and transform wireframes or concepts into functional, interactive frontend experiences;
- Implement user-focused solutions that prioritize clarity, accessibility, and visual hierarchy;
- Maintain existing web applications, troubleshoot frontend issues, and ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility;
- Ensure that all interfaces adhere to security best practices and data protection guidelines; and
- Keep tracking the latest trends in UI/UX design, frontend frameworks, and interactive technologies to suggest improvements for current projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Design, Interactive Media, or a related discipline;
- At least 2 years of work experience in Frontend Development or Web Design/Development;
- Proficiency in core web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+);
- Strong understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility;
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Vue.js (preferred) or React;
- Familiarity with version control systems, specifically Git;
- A portfolio demonstrating high-quality, interactive, and aesthetically strong web design work;
- Excellent command of spoken and written English;
- Experience with backend technologies (Node.js, Laravel) is a plus; and
- Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI-driven features into web applications is an advantage.
For applicants with prior experience designing interfaces or user workflows specifically for Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, or custom educational platforms) will be given preference, please highlight any relevant LMS projects in the application.
Those with higher qualifications and/or more experience may be considered for appointment as Research Assistant I.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made for up to a one-year part-time basis on temporary terms, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
