Senior Software Engineer/Software Engineer (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant I/II) (Several Posts) in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 534645)
We now invite applications for the captioned post to assist in research related to SmartRehab (https://www.remobility.net/), an AI-powered automated telerehabilitation platform jointly developed by HKU Stroke and HKU SAIL of HKU Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, and research staff locally and internationally
- Oversee the development and maintenance of backend API servers and web consoles
- Ensure optimal database performance
- Manage server operations and deployment
- Support mobile app development and enhancement
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Senior appointee will also be responsible for project management, supervising junior engineers in frontend and backend development, monitoring project progress, and providing technical advice on software and system issues

Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent, with at least 3 years' relevant post-qualification experience; candidates with less experience may be considered as Research Assistant I/II
- Hands-on experience in backend development using PHP and Laravel 9.0, frontend development using React and Ant Design (antd), and database management with PostgreSQL
- Familiar with server management using Nginx, deployment using Docker and AWS
- Knowledge of iOS and web-based app development is essential
- Demonstrate excellent analytical skills with a strong problem-solving attitude
- A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese
- Experience in hybrid mobile app development using Kotlin, Java, React.js, and React Native, along with solid experience in MongoDB, will be highly preferred
- Experience in open-source or industry-related projects, understanding of CI/CD processes, and familiarity with computer vision technologies for pose estimation and error detection in physical exercises would be advantageous

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
