The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has established a world-class Teaching and Research Site for the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS (SH)) in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai. The HKU-CDS Teaching and Research Site (Shanghai) marks a strategic milestone in regional academic collaboration, providing a dynamic environment for pioneering research, interdisciplinary engagement, and talent cultivation in the field of AI and Computer Science.
We are seeking experienced, forward-thinking and seasoned team leaders to be based in Shanghai to provide comprehensive leadership and administrative support for CDS (SH), in support of the School’s Bachelor', Master and PhD education.
Reporting to the School Secretary/Executive Director, the appointees will assume a supervisory and driving role within their respective functional teams. They are expected to lead operations, oversee functional teams, coordinate site‑level activities, and foster effective cross-team collaboration between Hong Kong and Shanghai in one or more of the following key functional areas: 1) SH on-site teaching support and outreach for taught Undergraduate and Master’s Programmes; 2) research initiative and Research and Development (R&D) lab support; and 3) procurement and asset management.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaching and Outreach
- Lead integrated academic support for the School’s Undergraduate and Master’s Programmes;
- Oversee digital content production (multimedia, video, graphics), as well as website and social media operations related to academic programme promotion;
- Coordinate the operation of Summer School, Open Days, outreach and admissions-related events;
- Provide cross functional administrative support and supervise junior staff; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Research Initiatives and R&D Support
- Drive operational excellence for joint‑laboratories, including planning and execution of laboratory layout, equipment specifications, vendor sourcing, and commissioning of new facilities;
- Monitor ongoing research projects to ensure equipment readiness, data integrity, and compliance with partnership agreements;
- Facilitate communication among partner R&D teams, ensuring progress tracking, reporting, and issue escalation;
- Oversee research equipment procurement, contract management, service agreements, and vendor relationships for specialized lab equipment;
- Supervise HR matters for research personnel, including recruitment, onboarding and exiting;
- Lead a team to support principal investigators’ research activities on-site;
- Support the digital promotion of the School’s research impact in the academic community locally and globally;
- Support the delivery of postgraduate research course learning;
- Support the School’s knowledge exchange initiatives, including organizing workshops, conferences, forums or consortia; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Procurement and Asset Management
- Lead large-scale inventory procurement planning & demand requirements;
- Establish policies in supplier sourcing and evaluation, project manage cost optimization, and contract negotiation to delivery cycle;
- Work closely with finance and legal team to finalize procurement contracts;
- Coordinate the collaboration of procurement requirements, and manage R&D of the School’s internal and joint-lab stakeholders engagement;
- Provide cross‑functional administrative support and supervise junior staff; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A Master’s degree or above, with substantial relevant experience in higher‑education, research administration, IT services, facilities management, communications, or related fields;
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills;
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent tasks, and deliver within tight deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse cultural and organizational environments, with sensitivity to Hong Kong and Mainland operational practices, workplace norms, and communication styles;
- Proven capability to facilitate collaboration among cross‑regional teams and to support stakeholders from varied cultural backgrounds;
- Proficiency in English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
- Proficiency in MS Office and willingness to learn; experience in branding, multimedia, video editing, or graphic design will be an advantage for outreach‑related roles; and
- Familiarity with building facilities, a background in design or architecture will be an advantage for finance and facilities-related roles.
Terms of Appointment
The appointment will be offered by an HKU entity incorporated in Shanghai, which will be governed by the Labour Contract Laws of the People’s Republic of China. The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
