Assistant Manager to the Director in the Institute for Precision Prevention (IPP)(Ref.:534821)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Manager to support the Director of the Institute for Precision Prevention (IPP) in advancing the protecting.health Global Initiative in Hong Kong, led by Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz. This position is integral to establishing Hong Kong as a leading hub for personalized preventive medicine research and precision health innovation.
The successful candidate will be appointed as an administrative staff in the IPP, to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
protecting.health aims to revolutionize healthcare by pioneering personalized preventive medicine for prevalent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer, claiming 17 million premature deaths every year. The protecting.health/hong kong study is a large-scale, longitudinal health monitoring study that is part of a series of identically designed studies implemented in multiple countries to jointly develop the world's first health screening test for early, pre-symptomatic detection of prevalent NCDs through advanced blood molecular phenotyping and artificial intelligence.
This position offers a unique opportunity to play a central role in building the infrastructure and external profile of a landmark initiative with global impact. The Assistant Manager will work in close collaboration with the IPP leadership team to ensure the successful implementation and visibility of IPP's research programs.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation & Coordination
- Coordinate and supervise the roll-out and implementation of the protecting.health/hong kong study, working closely with the central protecting.health team to ensure alignment with protocol and project requirements and operational milestones
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and bottlenecks, and implement solutions to ensure timely and successful delivery
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among multi-disciplinary teams and external partners
- Oversee the implementation of necessary funding, including project planning, timeline management, stakeholder coordination, and deliverable tracking
Strategic Communication & Institutional Representation
- Build and enhance IPP's external presence and serve as a liaison between IPP and HKU management and leadership, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and facilitating administrative support
- Represent IPP at institutional meetings, present project updates, and contribute to strategic planning discussions
Operational Support
- Support the Director in strategic planning, operational decision-making, and resource allocation
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including funding bodies and institutional review boards
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and scientific communications
Qualifications & Qualities
- Ph.D. in life sciences (e.g., molecular biology, epidemiology, public health, biomedical sciences) or a related field
- Demonstrated skills and experience in project management, ideally in clinical research, population health studies, or large-scale research initiatives
- Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and in Chinese (Cantonese)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment
