Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive translational research program in the diagnosis and management of spinal deformities, including scoliosis, under the supervision of Professor Kenneth Cheung.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting research on diagnostic strategies, disease progression, and management of spinal deformities (e.g., scoliosis);
- Collecting, managing, and analyzing clinical, imaging, and functional data (e.g., X-ray, gait/motion data);
- Participating in patient recruitment, clinical assessment, and longitudinal follow-up studies;
- Performing statistical analysis and/or computational data analysis;
- Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards;
- Assisting in manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant applications;
- Working closely with a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, engineers, and data scientists.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Biomechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, or related disciplines
- At least 1 year of relevant research or clinical research experience (candidates with more experience will be considered for RA II)
- Experience in clinical data analysis, medical imaging, or cohort-based studies is preferred
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and/or programming (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB); familiarity with state-of-the-art AI/ML models is an advantage
- Prior exposure to biomechanics, motion analysis, or musculoskeletal research is a plus
- Strong interest in translational medicine, digital health, or AI applications in healthcare
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Self-motivated, result-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
The appointee will carry out research projects in HKU and HKU-Shenzhen hospital. He/She will perform data collection and analysis, prepare research reports, provide research support to the Principal Investigator, and perform any other duties as assigned.
