The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is at a pivotal moment in its history, embarking on an ambitious 10-year strategic plan, Leadership for Impact, with the vision of becoming a world-leading university that transforms humanity's future. The Communications and Public Affairs Office (CPAO) sits at the heart of this mission.

CPAO enhances HKU's reputation through branding, events, digital communications, media relations, and more. The Office is also responsible for University events and ceremonies, publications, both external and internal communications, crisis management, and community engagement. We are inviting talented candidates to join our team.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Manager (Events), you will:

  • Support the Director and Associate Directors in the effective planning and execution of marketing and community engagement activities;
  • Develop and execute thought-leadership-related events and new initiatives that elevate the University's academic and strategic profile;
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute HKU events related to and held in the Chinese Mainland, ensuring alignment with the University's strategic goals and cultural nuances;
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of publicity plans for events;
  • Support the organization of various kinds of ceremonial and public activities to promote the University's image;
  • Oversee and supervise the development of marketing collateral for events, including brochures, booklets, invitations, event video highlights, onsite decoration, and other materials; and
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties (including projects) that may arise from time to time.

Qualifications and Qualities

We are seeking a motivated individual who possesses the following skills and experience:

  • A good university's degree in marketing, communications or a relevant discipline;
  • A minimum of eight years' relevant experience, with at least three years in a managerial position for consideration for appointment as Senior Manager; if appropriate, candidates with less experience may be considered for Manager (Events) role;
  • Exceptional trilingual proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Putonghua, with strong storytelling ability and news sense in both English and Chinese;
  • Demonstrated AI and new media proficiency, including hands-on experience with AI tools and AI-driven content workflows (e.g., LLMs and agentic AI platforms), data analytics platforms, social listening tools, and digital audience intelligence;
  • The ability to manage fast-moving projects and collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams in a complicated environment;
  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure;
  • Value integrity and teamwork and take pride in going the extra mile to provide excellent service;
  • Experience in higher education and service sectors is a plus; and
  • Willingness to work outside regular hours (including overtime or weekends as needed), be on a duty roster, and be subject to job rotation within CPAO.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary (for Senior Manager) or 10% of basic salary (for Manager). Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
