Health and Safety Officer (at the rank of Technical Officer) in the Safety Office (Ref.: 536772) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Diploma or above in Occupational Safety and Health, Chemistry or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ relevant post-qualification work experience, preferably in chemical safety or chemistry laboratories in tertiary institutions.  Preference will be given to those with hands-on experience in ordering and inventory management.  They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; a strong sense of responsibility; solid computer literacy (e.g. MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint); effective problem-solving and analytical skills; and good interpersonal and communication skills.  

The appointee will report directly to the Chemical Safety Manager, and support the day‑to‑day operations of Chemical Safety Services. Key responsibilities include providing chemical safety advice to departments, managing the central Dangerous Goods (DG) Stores, handling central DG supply orders with a team of Facilities Assistants, monitoring stock levels of DG and consumables, overseeing the receipt of DG, coordinating hazardous waste collection, assisting in chemical emergencies and accidents, and performing other duties as assigned. The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours occasionally.
