Professor and Head of Department of Politics and Public Administration
Applications are invited for appointment as Professor and Head of the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (Ref.: 537112). We are seeking a distinguished scholar with the stature of a Full Professor at a research-intensive institution, a strong record of academic leadership, and a solid commitment to research, teaching, and community engagement to lead our world-class department. Candidates should hold a PhD in Political Science or related discipline.
The appointment as Professor will be made on tenure terms, while the appointment as Head of Department will be for an initial three-year term, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
Department of Politics and Public Administration
The Department of Politics and Public Administration has played a leading role in the University and its global disciplines since its establishment in 1970. Position Description
The Department is looking for a visionary leader who will be responsible for both strategic and operational leadership within the Department, and contribute a significant voice in the leadership structure of the Faculty. Through effective leadership and coordination, he/she will champion the activities of the Department and will seek to align them with the Faculty’s strategic research areas. We seek a scholar of the highest academic credentials who has a commitment to helping build a community of scholars. The area of research expertise is open, but the appointee should have the experience and capability required to lead the Department. The appointee will lead strategic planning within the Department to deliver positive outcomes across our research and teaching programmes. He/She will bring energy, experience in leadership and administration, and strong interpersonal skills to the role.
Compensation and Benefits
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The University will contribute up to 15% of basis salary into the retirement benefits scheme. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
