IT Manager / IT Officer in the Division of Community Medicine and Public Health Practice, School of Public Health (Ref.: 537152) (to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.)

 

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline, with a minimum of five years' proven experience in full-stack web development. They should demonstrate strong technical proficiency in Node.js, Vue.js, Electron, Nginx, Docker, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS, and Git, as well as solid experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL. Applicants should have hands-on experience in GNU/Linux server administration, particularly Ubuntu, and a sound understanding of network security, TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, and DNS. Experience in troubleshooting Windows 11, macOS, and Linux environments is essential. Familiarity with Qualtrics and headless CMS platforms such as Directus and Strapi would be highly desirable. The preferred candidate should be comfortable working in a research environment, capable of handling routine operational tasks, and committed to maintaining high standards of information security and data protection. Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Officer.

 

The appointee will be responsible for administering Ubuntu Linux servers, including security updates, firewall configuration, Nginx management, and Docker-based deployments, including work with a large population-based cohort with over 46,000 participants across 20,000 households. He/She will install, configure, and provide support for Windows 11 workstations, while delivering general IT support across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments. The successful candidate will lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of web applications using modern technologies including Vue.js, Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Nginx, and Docker. Responsibilities include building and maintaining sophisticated data-collection systems with advanced web forms and file-upload functionality; developing interactive data visualisations, charts, and mapping applications using open-source libraries; integrating survey and content management platforms such as Qualtrics, Directus, and Strapi; and ensuring robust security, authentication, and personal data protection mechanisms. The appointee will also support network infrastructure, including TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, and DNS services, and contribute to the overall maintenance and improvement of the Division's IT environment. The role also includes ad hoc duties and routine maintenance work as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
