IT Technician/Senior IT Assistant in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 526566)

We are looking for an IT Technician/Senior IT Assistant to join the Department of Physics. 

 

The Role

The appointee will be responsible for providing technical support to troubleshoot, monitor, maintain, and enhance the Department's IT resources. They will assist users with IT-related requests and handle IT administrative tasks. This may involve ensuring the proper functioning of all IT equipment and facilities, including PCs, servers, and HPC systems, as well as establishing and maintaining secure IT network environments. In addition, the appointee will handle the purchasing of new IT equipment, managing associated paperwork, and performing other assigned IT duties.

 

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Bachelor’s degree in IT-related disciplines;
  • 2 – 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience;
  • A good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua);
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various OS environments, such as Windows, Linux, MacOS, and others; experience in Linux web/DNS/mail server and HPC system configuration, administration and security protection is an advantage;
  • Ability to troubleshoot, monitor, maintain, and deploy PCs, servers, networks, and related IT facilities, and to provide users with technical guidance and support;
  • A good team player, self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and ethics; and
  • Good organizational, problem-solving, communication, and self-learning skills.

Those with lower qualification or less experience may be considered for appointment as Senior IT Assistant.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
