Senior Research Assistant in the School of Public Health (Ref.: 507801) (to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, OR a Master’s degree by research plus at least 1 year’s post-qualification experience, in bioinformatics, biostatistics, public health, or a related quantitative and computational discipline. They should be proficient in data analysis using statistical or mathematical software, such as Python, R or MATLAB. They should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and a keen interest in academic research. They should be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team. Experience in infectious disease modelling and viral phylogenetic analysis will be an advantage.

The appointee will work with the principal investigator to develop a statistical inference model to estimate the transmission advantage or potential immune escape of mutant SARS-CoV-2 variants by integrating epidemiological data and phylogenetic data in the model. He/she will also contribute to other projects and perform research-related duties as assigned. Enquiries about the duties of the post should be sent to Dr. Kathy Leung at ksmleung@hku.hk.
