Social Worker (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant)

Applications are invited for appointment as Social Worker (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant) in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

The Department is conducting an elderly mental wellness project with other NGO partners in elderly/mental health services. It aims at developing a viable and sustainable best practice model to promote elderly mental wellness and prevent elderly depression in Hong Kong.

Applicants should possess a qualification in Social Work with Registered Social Worker status in Hong Kong. Qualified social workers with a Bachelor’s Degree and three years of post-degree work experience or a Master’s Degree with one year of work experience are welcome to apply. They should also be a strong communicator, good listeners and willing to take up challenges in setting up new mental wellness support services and liaisons across various districts in Hong Kong. Frontline experience in district-based community services is not essential but highly preferred. Out-of-office location duties and support to the project’s research data collection are expected.

The appointee will work in the Jockey Club JoyAge project to deliver various community-based participatory interventions and research, which aim to promote mental wellness with and through our project community partners through the organisation of community activities, wellness groups and social networking among the elderly population. Those with a passion for elderly well-being and building a healthy-ageing society are especially welcome to apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date CV, a cover letter stating their background, and the contact information of one referee. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until the application deadline or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier. Please email the project director, Professor Terry Lum (tlum@hku.hk), for more information.
