The Faculty of Social Sciences is looking for a Social Worker, Counsellor or Clinical Psychologist to serve as a Counsellor to play a pivotal role to lead and coordinate a new initiative to enhance the wellbeing of our students and staff members across the Faculty and the Departments.  This initiative aims to cultivate a nurturing and inclusive environment that prioritises self-care, personal growth, resilience, establishing a robust peer support network, and building a strong sense of community within the Faculty and the Departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide personal and cross-cultural counseling for students and staff members individually or in groups 
  • Intervention for students and faculty members in crisis situations
  • Develop and implement strategies and programmes to promote wellbeing awareness
  • Coordinate and deliver workshops, seminars and talks tailored to the specific needs of students and staff members on various topics, such as mental health, developmental issues, and life skills
  • Liaise and collaborate with the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), faculty members, student ambassadors and other stakeholders to implement university-wide and faculty campaigns of wellbeing promotion

Requirements

  • A recognised Master's degree in social work, counselling, clinical psychology or related disciplines
  • A Registered Social Worker in Hong Kong, or certified by the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association, or registered in the Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists, or other internationally recognised professional bodies
  • At least 3-5 years’ post-qualification work experience of social work or counselling training, clinical intervention and service coordination, preferably a supervisory role and in the settings of tertiary institutions or public services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Mandarin)
  • Strong knowledge of practices and interventions related to mental health, stress management, resilience-building, and crisis management
  • Ability to establish rapport and build trust with diverse individuals and groups
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Irregular working hours may be required

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
