Laboratory Manager (at the rank of Technical Manager) in the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 526235) (to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Master's degree or above in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ post-qualification work experience in laboratory management. Knowledge of biosafety and experience in handling chemical licenses would be highly preferred. Experience with transgenic animals (especially mice), virus preparation, mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, and a good track record of scientific publications would be an asset. Applicants should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). They should be organized, responsible, detail-minded, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.

The appointee will:

  • play a crucial role in overseeing and optimizing laboratory operations
  • ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and foster a culture of safety, compliance, collaboration and innovation within the laboratory.
  • provide strategic leadership and manage day-to-day operations of the laboratory
  • develop and implement laboratory protocols, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines
  • monitor laboratory budgets, procure necessary equipment and supplies, and maintain inventory, collaborate with researchers and staff to support their scientific projects and ensure efficient use of resources
  • train and supervise laboratory personnel, provide guidance and mentoring as needed, stay updated on emerging technologies and scientific advancements relevant to the laboratory’s focus area
