Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 530069), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

 

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or closely related disciplines, with at least two years of post-doctoral research experience.  They should demonstrate strong competency in quantitative data analysis of complex and big datasets (e.g., UK biobank) and have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.  A solid background in medical research, particular in causal inference using multi-omics data, evaluation of efficacy and safety, and repositioning of medications, along with a proven track record of publications, is essential.  Relevant experience in leading and coordinating large-scale international multidisciplinary research projects in public healthcare will be advantageous.  Additionally, experience in teaching postgraduate-level courses on epidemiology is desirable.

 

The appointee will lead a team to conduct research studies that aims at evaluating efficacy and safety of medication safety with triangulation of genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, and clinical outcomes, while also improving the delivery of public healthcare services in Hong Kong.  He/She will assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of research projects using quantitative methods.  Other responsibilities include preparing presentations, manuscripts, and reports; supervising junior research staff, collaborating with community partners and external stakeholders; and performing any other relevant tasks as assigned.  Enquiries about the duties of the post should be sent to Professor Eric Wan (yfwan@hku.hk).

 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
