IT Technician for User Service Team in Information Technology Services (Ref.: 530215)

Information Technology Services provides central IT services to support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. ITS is transforming its organization to support its new strategic development and strategic adoption of new technologies. Information about ITS can be obtained at https://www.its.hku.hk/.

The Role

  • Providing technical support to end users;
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of users’ desktops, laptops, and other devices;
  • Working closely with the system team to provide timely and effective solutions to end-user issues; and
  • Resolving both hardware and software issues.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A diploma in Information Technology or a related discipline
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and a team player
  • Certifications of ITIL and CTS, and relevant working experience in project management are preferred.

They should have knowledge of or experience in some of the following areas:

  • Providing technical support to end-users either in-person or remotely
  • Troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues, and escalating issues to second-tier support when necessary
  • Resolving network connectivity problems
  • Hands-on experiences in maintenance of LAN sockets and testing network cable connectivity
  • Hands-on experience in supporting both Windows and MAC platforms
  • Hands-on experience in supporting iOS and Android devices
  • VIP supporting
  • Responsible for installing and configurating various hardware and software components, such as printers, desktops, laptops, Operating Systems, and productivity software
  • Ensuring that all systems and equipment are in compliance with corporate policies and legal requirements, such as data privacy laws and regulations.
  • Hands-on experience in supporting computer-based audio-visual solutions including webcasting, video streaming, and video conferencing.
  • Familiar with live streaming and video conference solutions, and software management (experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom and knowledge with different end-point devices are preferred)

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
