Curator/Associate Curator (at the rank of Administrative Assistant I or Administrative Assistant II) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.:530290)

The Role

Reporting to the Director, the appointee will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage the operations of public education, outreach programmes, and events at UMAG;
  • Contribute to organizing the Museum’s internal and external communications; and
  • Act as a spokesperson for the Museum with the media, at functions, conferences and meetings when appropriate.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A master’s degree in museum studies, education, communications, management, art history or related areas, with an emphasis on public education and culture;
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in museum work; 
  • Working knowledge of both museum education and curatorial practices;
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and
  • The ability to manage a team of colleagues independently and exercise independent judgment.

Those with less qualifications/experience may be appointed as Associate Curator.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary for Curator and 10% of basic salary for Associate Curator. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
