Senior Manager (Media Relations) (at the rank of Administrative Assistant I) in the Communications and Public Affairs Office of the Registry (Ref.: 530344) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)

The Communications and Public Affairs Office (CPAO) of the Registry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) enhances HKU's reputation through branding, events, digital communications, media relations, and more. The office is also responsible for University events and ceremonies, publications, both external and internal communications, crisis management and community engagement. We are looking for talented candidates to join the CPAO team.

Leading a small team of media relations professionals, the key responsibilities of the Senior Manager (Media Relations) are to:

  • develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies to enhance the image and visibility of the University;
  • engage with local and international media, cultivate and maintain relationships with key media stakeholders;
  • assist in crisis management and provide strategic advice on media issues;
  • handle media inquiries, draft press releases, feature stories and other communications materials, organize media events and interviews;
  • establish rapport with University and community stakeholders; and
  • perform any other duties that may arise from time to time. Work outside regular hours and on duty roster may be required.

Requirements:

  • a good University degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline;
  • at least 12 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, with at least 6 years in a managerial / senior editor position;
  • proven track record in media relations, crisis management and stakeholder engagement;
  • strong networks with the media and key stakeholders in the community;
  • excellent command (both spoken and written) of English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • a self-driven leader and a team player with a growth mindset, able to work under pressure and manage multiple projects concurrently;
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders; and
  • familiarity with higher education development and news reporting is an advantage.

Compensation and Benefits:

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in additional to annual leave and medical benefits.
