Hong Kong University Press is a department of the University of Hong Kong and one of the leading English-language academic publishers in Asia. Founded in 1956, the Press publishes up to 30–50 new titles a year across all areas of Asian studies from leading scholars around the world.
We are seeking an editorial and production coordinator to join the editing, design, and production (EDP) team. Reporting to the managing editor and senior production coordinator, the appointee will manage a variety of editorial and production tasks that are essential to the functioning of the EDP unit. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide editorial/production assistance on publications, including tracking manuscripts and trafficking materials between departments.
- Assist in translation quality control and provide support for English-Chinese manuscript translations, including both simplified and traditional Chinese.
- Manage all art for publication and track receipt of digital files and photo credits.
- Prepare and format manuscripts for copyediting.
- Prepare and transmit edited manuscripts to compositors.
- Assist in proofreading and checking proofs and blueprints.
- Assist in production of reprint editions.
- Coordinate production schedules and monitor production status, from output files to stock.
- Perform other duties as required.
Applicants should have a good bachelor’s degree in translation or in a discipline related to language studies. They should have excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua). They should also have excellent communication, time management, and organization skills, and strong self-motivation and ability to work under pressure and within a team environment. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, and prior internship or experience in book publishing will be an advantage.
