Assistant Systems Librarian (Technology Support Services) (at the rank of Administrative Assistant II) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 530399)
We are looking for an Assistant Systems Librarian to join the University Libraries to provide quality service for Technology Support Services and/or other functional area(s).
The Role
The appointee will work under the general direction of the Associate Librarian, Technology Support Services. He/She will work closely with librarians and others across the Libraries’ network. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintain high-quality and robust systems, which facilitate discovery of library resources and delivery of library services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform system administration and support tasks related to the Ex Libris (such as Alma, Primo, Leganto, Rapido and CampusM) systems;
- Use Ex Libris Developer Network tools and APIs in designing and maintaining system customizations;
- Provide and assist colleagues in delivery of statistics from the Analytics and Data Warehouse;
- Assist with set up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of technological projects/tasks;
- Participate in Digital Library project development;
- Stay current with the latest developments in library IT, including emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in information management and digital scholarship;
- Demonstrate expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and data analytics, and apply this knowledge to improve library services and operations; and
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree, a recognised professional qualification in librarianship (M.L.S. or equivalent), and at least 3 years of appropriate experience in academic or research institutions.
Essential qualities include:
- strong system administration skill together with good analytical and problem-solving skills for managing HKUL’s integrated library systems;
- hands-on experience in administration of computer systems and programs, website application development, database management and construction;

What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
