Senior Technical Officer (holding the functional title of Engineer) in the Centre for Comparative Medicine Research (Ref.: 531584) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal) 

The Centre for Comparative Medicine Research (CCMR) is a University-wide core service centre committed to the provision of the highest-quality research animals, well-equipped animal holding facilities, and professional services to support the leading role of the University of Hong Kong in research and teaching. CCMR houses multiple equipment’s including autoclaves, cabinet and bottle washers, automated robotics systems, bedding disposal systems, and portable AHU’s, vacuum-assisted bedding disposal system, bedding dispensing system, water filtration system, animal isolators, etc. 

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Engineering or related disciplines. Experience with mechanical or electrical engineering is an advantage. They should have a good command of written and spoken Chinese and English with good problem-solving skills; be highly motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently in a team.  

The appointee will be provided with on-job training before commencement of duties. He/She will be responsible for supporting daily operations and maintenance of laboratories/machines/equipment.  Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conducting regular preventive maintenance for equipment related to operations of the animal facility; 
  • Identifying and troubleshooting equipment issues; 
  • Performing repairs and replacement as appropriate; 
  • Collaborating with other members of the animal facility to ensure equipment is functioning properly; 
  • Conducting validation and testing of equipment performance; and 
  • Performing any other duties in the animal facility to understand the operations as assigned. 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
