Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 531851) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Virology, Biological/Biomedical Sciences, Animal Sciences, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline. The applicants should have effective communication skills, a strong interest in working closely with virologists and clinicians, be highly self-motivated, independent, and able to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment. The appointees will have opportunities for MPhil/PhD studies upon mutual agreement. He/She will be involved in research projects related to emerging viral pathogens under the supervision of Prof. Hin Chu. Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered as Research Assistant II.

Prof. Chu (https://hkumicro.hku.hk/university-staff/dr-chu-hin/) focuses on studying the entry, virus-host interaction, and pathogenesis of coronaviruses (h-index: 59; citations: 34,000; 170 articles in peer-reviewed SCI-indexed journals.). He has an established track record on coronavirus research with >65 publications in high-impact journals as (co-) first/corresponding authors including Nature (2022a, 2022b), Lancet (2020), Nature Microbiology (2022), Lancet Microbe (2020), Cell Host & Microbe (2012, 2023), Nature Methods (2022), Nature Biomedical Engineering (2023), Cell Research (2020), PNAS (2024), Nature Communications (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024), Science Advances (2021, 2023), Cell Reports Medicine (2022a, 2022b), etc.
