Senior Laboratory Assistant in the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) (Ref.: 533627) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)
Applicants should have 5 passes in HKCEE, including English (minimum Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), Chinese (Level 2 from 2007) and Mathematics; OR minimum Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics; OR an equivalence qualification, with at least 5 years’ relevant work experience. They must hold a valid Hong Kong driving licence (full class 1 or 2), a certificate in pleasure vessel operation and PADI professional membership (Divemaster level, or above), or an equivalent qualification. Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), good interpersonal skills, a strong sense of responsibility, the ability to work independently as well as within a team, and be self-motivated.
The appointee will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Institute’s research vessels and serving as boat captain; overseeing and maintaining the Institute’s vehicles and providing routine driving services; supporting diving activities and conducting check-out dives as a dive master (instructor); overseeing the diving equipment and diving room; providing field assistance to diver at SWIMS and ensuring their safety by utilizing knowledge of Hong Kong’s marine environment; training supporting staff and students on fieldwork, boating, and diving matters, and undertaking any other duties as assigned by the Director.
