Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will work on the following research project with the Principal Investigator, Professor Kevin W. H. Tai: “AI-Mediated Translanguaging Space in English-Medium Instruction University Classrooms: Enhancing Students’ Motivational Development in Content Subject Learning and English Language Learning”. He/She will assist in operational and research-related activities, including but not limited to liaising with University Faculty members, planning and conducting classroom observations, collecting qualitative and quantitative data, conducting transcription and translation, helping with analysing qualitative and quantitative data and writing research reports.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics and Language Education or equivalent. A strong research background is essential, preferably in areas such as computer-assisted language learning, conversation/discourse analysis, and translanguaging.

Candidates should demonstrate in-depth familiarity with generative AI (GenAI) tools, with a clear alignment between the AI-assisted tools used and research areas within Applied Linguistics—particularly those relevant to Hong Kong contexts and educational settings.

Proficiency in both English (including academic writing) and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) is required. Applicants must also be competent in conducting Conversation Analysis and Multimodal Analysis, transcribing classroom interaction data, and performing qualitative data analysis.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Expertise in GenAI research, qualitative data analysis, and multimodal interaction analysis will be considered an asset.

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
