The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has established a world-class Teaching and Research site for the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai. The HKU-CDS Teaching and Research Site (Shanghai) represents a strategic milestone in regional academic collaboration, providing a dynamic environment for pioneering research, interdisciplinary engagement, and talent cultivation in the field of AI and Computer Science. We are seeking experienced and seasoned team leaders to be based in Shanghai to provide comprehensive administrative support to the operations of the CDS Shanghai Site in supporting and enriching the School’s Bachelor, Master and PhD education.

Position 1: Senior Manager (HR Administration and Site Operations)

The appointee will report to the School Secretary/Executive Director and lead a sizable local HR and administrative team. He/She will oversee the operations and strategic development of the Shanghai Site across key functional areas, including human resources planning, site administration, external engagement, and the implementation of new initiatives and policies under the direction of the School’s leadership. Close collaboration with senior management and the CDS headquarters in Hong Kong will be essential to advancing the School’s strategic plans.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the full local recruitment cycle and formulating staffing strategies to support the School’s growth and academic priorities;
  • Overseeing the delivery and quality assurance of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching operations;
  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement in Shanghai;
  • Contributing to broader School administration, including organizational development, partnerships and engagement, Mainland affairs, committee work, and School-wide strategic and special projects.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree;
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in human resources management;
  • A strong track record in academic administration in the Chinese Mainland;
  • An experienced and confident leader with a proactive and forward-thinking mindset who is keen to grow professionally in higher education administration;
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • Strong IT skills and demonstrated experience in project and/or event management.

Position 2: Senior Manager (Mainland Outreach and Digital Engagement)

The appointee will report to the School Secretary/Executive Director and lead a Marketing and Events team, taking primary responsibility for developing and implementing comprehensive public relations and digital marketing strategies that advance the School’s goals and objectives.   

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and executing PR and digital marketing strategies to promote HKU-CDS programmes and brand in the Chinese Mainland;
  • Leading Mainland outreach campaigns and activities, planning and delivering marketing and admissions-related events;
  • Supporting the full admission cycle for the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Chinese Mainland
  • Managing digital and social media engagement, including content strategy, campaign performance and brand consistency.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree;
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in promoting academic programmes and managing social media/digital engagement for academic institutions in the Chinese Mainland;
  • A self-driven person and an effective communicator with a creative, solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving;
  • Ability to work independently with initiative, manage multiple priorities, and think and plan strategically, demonstrating a proactive mindset in driving innovative marketing initiatives;
  • Strong digital, graphic design and IT proficiency;
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • Prior experience in undergraduate admissions and event management.

Terms of Appointment

The appointment will be offered by an HKU entity incorporated in Shanghai, which will be governed by the Labour Contract Laws of the People’s Republic of China. The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
