Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (Ref.: 534947) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in a related discipline of Earth Sciences/Chemistry/Engineering/Physics, with at least 3-5 years’ related work experience. A strong background in elemental and isotope geochemistry/cosmochemistry, and hands-on experience in analytical and instrumental techniques for a wide range of earth and planetary sciences applications such as MC-ICPMS, ICP-MS, laser ablation systems, X-ray diffractometer, optical and electron microscopy, noble gas spectrometry and ion chromatography are required. Experience in setting up and maintaining clean laboratory environments would be advantageous. Additionally, proficiency in electronics and instrumentation trouble shooting is preferred. Applicants should also have an excellent command of written and spoken English; strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and supervisory skills; and be self-motivated. They should be diligent, responsible, and able to work independently and effectively under pressure.

The appointee will manage, operate and maintain the analytical and instrumental facilities and assist in innovative research across the earth and planetary sciences. The appointee will also assist in the preparation of tender/purchase orders for the procurement of laboratory equipment/consumables; provide technical advice for the future development of the research facility; and perform any other duties as assigned. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview.
